Division Honors and NCAA Tourney Play


Colorado Senior Taylor Kornieck was named to the first team as the Pac-12 announced their post season All Conference awards on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. Kornieck finished second on the team with a career-high 28 points, despite missing 4 games due to injury. She scored 9 goals in 16 starts, ranks 10 in the NCAA with a Buffs-record 10 assists and tallied a school record 1.75 points per game.

Bowling Green Senior Elisa Baeron was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District first team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Baeron, a native of Selsingen, Lower Saxony, Germany, has played in all 21 Falcon matches and was named the Mid-American Conference Tournament MVP as the Falcons won the 2018 MAC Title.

Michigan Senior Reilly Martin was named one to the Google Cloud Academic All-District second team. Martin has 21 career goals and 24 assists to tally 66 points and scored four game-winners for Michigan. She became just the fourth player in program history to collect 20 goals and 20 assists.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Eligible student athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, in their second year at the current institution, and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.

The first round of the NCAA Tournament started on Friday, November 9, 2018 with a few MCFC alum playing for their respective teams.

Freshman Alexa Spaanstra scored a pair of goals as the Virginia Cavaliers defeated Monmouth 2-0 in the first round of the NCA Tournament. Virginia heads into the second round where they will face Texas Tech. It was Spaanstra’s second two-goal game of the season.

The Florida State Seminoles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Loyola Chicago. Gloriana Villalobos assisted on the winning goal with a pass that dropped in front of Anna Patten who buried in in the net.

Marissa Viggiano had 2 shots, 1 on target and Brenna Lovera contributed 1 shot as the Northwestern Wildcats saw their 2018 season come to an end dropping a 1-0 decision to NC State.

Senior Carly Mauldin had 5 shots, 2 on target as the Mississippi State Bulldogs were beaten 1-0 on a Lipscomb overtime goal in the 109th minute in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs outshot Lipscomb 28-8 and had 2 goals waved off, one a header from Mauldin who was called offside.

MAC Champion Bowling Green were knocked out of the first round of the NCAA tournament with a 4-1 loss to Penn State. Seniors Elisa Baeron and Victoria Cope played for the Falcons in a 2018 season that set records for the most wins in a single season (14), fewest losses (7) and highest winning percentage at .705.
